Oktay Asadov: Do not give in to provocations of Iran
The issue on the Gulistan and Turkmenchay agreements signed between Russia and Persia in 1813 and 1828 was discussed at today’s session of the parliament. Recently, Iran makes statements that these agreements are not valid any more, and Iran should get back territories within the frameworks of these agreements. These territories belong to Azerbaijan.
A number of Azerbaijani MPs proposed to express attitude to these statements made in Iran. However, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov, said that it makes no sense to give in to provocations of the Iranian press, which is discussing the possibility of termination of the pacts.
MP Zahid Oruc proposed to hold a number of events due to the 200th anniversary of the Gulistan Treaty. However, the leadership of parliament did not support his idea. --17D—
