On what issues is there no agreement between Baku and Yerevan?
Baku/30.06.23/Turan: Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan named the issues on which Yerevan and Baku did not agree during the June 27-29 talks in Washington.
According to him, during the three-day meeting, Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs did not reach an agreement on issues related to "the clarification of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, withdrawal of troops, creation of international mechanism of dialogue on security guarantees and rights of the people of Nagorno Karabakh. At the moment there are different positions on these issues, Kostanyan said, according to Armenian media reports.
A peace treaty will be signed when official Yerevan and Baku agree on all points, the Armenian diplomat said. There is no clear date for the next meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, he added.
Armenia still retains 8 Azerbaijani villages, including 7 of Gazakh region and 1 of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, seized in the early 1990's. There is one village under Baku's control that belongs to the Armenian SSR.
Armenia also claims that Azerbaijani troops "invaded" its territory during border fighting in May 2021 and September 2022. The Azerbaijani side argues that these claims are unfounded because the border is not delimited.
At that, Baku categorically rejects "the creation of an international dialogue mechanism to guarantee the security and rights of the people of Nagorny Karabakh", as this limits Azerbaijan's sovereignty over a part of its internationally recognized territory. Azerbaijan proposes to reintegrate the Armenian-populated part of Karabakh by guaranteeing the rights and security of its inhabitants within the framework of Azerbaijan's constitution. -06В-
