Nikol Pashinyan
Pashinyan actually admitted that he had derailed negotiations and trilateral meeting
Baku/11.11.21/Turan: The installation of Azerbaijani posts at the Goris-Kafan section could have been avoided, but the price would have been a "corridor logic". Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this at a government meeting in Yerevan today.
"A question may arise: couldn't we negotiate so that border control with regard to citizens and cargoes of the Republic of Armenia would not be carried out on this road? We could, but the price would be corridor logic, which is unacceptable for us," Pashinyan said.
Armenia does not allow establishing any uncontrolled transport corridors through its territory, he said.
Since Azerbaijan wants to establish customs control on the Goris-Kafan highway, Armenia will switch to the new road. Pashinyan used the following wording: "Azerbaijan wants to establish customs control on the Eivazli-Chayzami section on its territory. Therefore, the Armenian side decided to send citizens along the Kafan-Aghvani-Tatev road. This road is practically ready and Iranian trucks are already using it’, Pashinyan said.
It should recalled that Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders were scheduled to meet on November 9 to sign agreements on border delimitation and prepare for a peace agreement. However, the meeting was canceled at the last moment, and today's statement by Pashinyan shows that Yerevan does not want the road through Meghri (Zangezur corridor) to have the same status as the Lachin corridor to Karabakh.
Yerevan's rejection of the previously reached agreements can cause the collapse of other agreements, calling into question the fate of the Lachin corridor. -02D-
