Pashinyan Supports Statement of his Defense Minister
Baku / 02.04.19 / Turan: "The noise around the statement of the Minister of Defense David Tonoyan is meaningless. If he had made a different statement, I would have dismissed him from his post. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this in an interview with journalists on April 2.
"Tonoyan said that if suddenly there is a war, then we will strive for victory in this war. If the head of the Ministry of Defense thinks differently, then he should not occupy this position. This in no way casts a shadow on the peace process, on the contrary, emphasizes its importance," News.am quotes Pashinyan.
On the question of whether this statement was agreed with the head of the Cabinet, the Prime Minister replied: "The Minister of Defense acts under the direction and authority of the Prime Minister."
Referring to the negotiation process itself, Nikol Pashinyan noted: "The peace negotiation process should be continued, but we must also understand that as long as the conflict is not settled, we, as a state and people, should be ready for any development of events".
Recall that the Minister of Defense of Armenia David Tonoyan, at a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community of New York, declared his readiness in the case of "new Azerbaijani aggression" to reformulate the principle of "territory for peace" into a "new war for new territories".
The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan called the statement of Tonoyan "another clear recognition of conducting an aggressive policy by an Armenian official".
This statement is frankly provocative in nature and directed against the efforts of the international community through the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on the peaceful settlement of the conflict, the statement said.
Baku expects clarification from the top leadership of Armenia "in the context of the statement by his Defense Minister: whether the Minister did this with the consent of the Armenian leadership or if it was ministerial improvisation designed to cast doubt on at least the essence of the talks and the joint statement adopted on their results," noted the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan. -06D-
