Preliminary investigation into General Akperov's case completed
Baku/01.07.21/Turan: The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has completed a preliminary investigation into the case of the former commander of the National Army Corps, Lieutenant General Rovshan Akperov, who is accused of murder.
The investigation had serious suspicions that Akperov, after a feast in a cafe in Kiev on the night of May 31 to June 1, 2001, at about 4 a.m. near this institution, based on a minor conflict between their hooligan motives hit Elchin Aliyev with a piercing-cutting object. He died from his wounds.
Akperov was charged under the Articles of the Criminal Code: 12.1, 120.2.2 (premeditated murder committed outside Azerbaijan) and 12.1, 221.3 (hooliganism committed outside Azerbaijan).
The materials of the criminal case were sent to the Baku Military Court for consideration.—06d-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
