Printing of Newspaper Azadlig Could Be Stopped

The State Publishing House Azerbaijan demanded the opposition's leading daily newspaper Azadlig partially repay the debt to the publisher by 15:00 today. In particular, by the deadline the paper must pay 10,000 manat, the deputy chief editor of the newspaper Rahim Hajiyev told Turan.

According to him, the newspaper is in financial difficulties due to the non payment of 40,000 manats to the newspaper by the state press distribution firm Gasid.

Hajiyev said that yesterday the management of Azadlig applied to the firm Gasid, whose representatives informed that on September 10, the organization can at best provide one thousand manats.

According to Hajiyev, the authorities are simply looking for an excuse to stop the printing of the newspaper.

In his view, the reason for this was yesterday's publication by Azadlig of an article, which contained harsh criticism of the government of Azerbaijan. -16D-
