Putin admitts that he was preparing aggression against Georgia during two years
Russian President Vladimir Putin today made a sensational confession that he began a military actions against Georgia four years ago, and the preparation for the operation against Georgia began in 2006, and Russia provided arms for the Ossetian separatists.
"It is not a secret, there was a plan, and we acted within it. The plan was developed by the General Staff in late 2006 - early 2007, and agreed with me. Under the plan, we prepared the South Ossetian militias," Vladimir Putin told reporters after talks with President of Armenia.
In 2006 Putin was president, and the plan was approved by him, but when the war started in the Caucasus, this position was occupied by Dmitry Medvedev.
Responding the question from journalists about his personal involvement in those events, he said: "Being in Beijing, I twice called Dmitry Anatolyevich and Minister of Defense on 7 and 8 August." According to the then head of the Russian General Staff, Baluyevsky, after those calls Russia started war against Georgia.
After the conflict in August 2008 Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and placed there military bases. In Georgia, these republics are officially regarded as the territories "occupied" by Russia. -02D-
