Putin and Aliyev re-discussed the situation on the Dagestan border
Moscow/18.06.20/Turan: On Thursday, the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev discussed on the phone bilateral relations and measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the Kremlin press service said.
"The issues of further development of bilateral relations were discussed. The situation around the coronavirus pandemic and the measures taken to combat the infection were also touched," the report said.
The press service of the President of Azerbaijan reports that Aliyev informed Putin that he would not be able to attend the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the victory due to quarantine measures.
He said that Azerbaijan would be represented at the military parade by the Minister of Defense and 75 troops.
The heads of state also discussed the situation on the Azerbaijani-Russian border. After the previous conversation between the heads of state on May 18, about 700 Azerbaijani citizens passed through the Samur checkpoint from Russia to Azerbaijan, and about 1,000 Azerbaijanis, taking into account the flights.
The parties agreed to give additional instructions to the relevant structures to resolve the situation at the border.
On the night of June 15, several hundred Azerbaijani citizens tried to break through the border by clashing with the Dagestan police. Dozens of people were detained, there were injured on both sides. A criminal case was opened against 10 citizens of Azerbaijan.
Currently, about 400 Azerbaijani citizens continue to live on the border, waiting for a pass to their homeland.-02D-
