AFFA decided to end the national football championship before time
Baku/18.06.20/Turan: On June 18, an online meeting of the AFFA Executive Committee (Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan) decided to end prematurely the Azerbaijani championship, until the end of which there were eight rounds.
The “Karabakh” club, the leader at the time of the suspension of the games, was declared the champion of the country. It will represent Azerbaijan in the Champions League of the new season.
Neftchi, Keshlya, Sumgayit, who took second, third and fourth places respectively, will play in the Europa League.
European Cups will start on August 18.
The Executive Committee explained its decision by the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the increase in the number of infected people, the lack of sufficient time to train teams due to the extension of the special quarantine regime until July 1.
The decision was made by 11 votes in favor and one against.
This decision was ambiguously met by football experts, who noted that even those countries where the situation with the coronavirus is worse than in Azerbaijan have resumed championships. This will affect the level of training of Azerbaijani clubs, which will play in European cups. –71D-
