Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin.
Putin and Erdogan discussed the Mediterranean, Libya and Syria
Baku / 17.08.20 / Turan: On August 17, the presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey had a telephone conversation. The main attention was paid to the problems of the Libyan crisis, the need for real steps towards a ceasefire and the launch of direct negotiations between the warring parties is emphasized. The situation in Syria was also discussed, with an emphasis on stepping up joint efforts in the fight against terrorism in order to fulfill the Russian-Turkish agreements on Idlib, reads the message of the Kremlin press service.
In turn, the press service of the Turkish president reported that the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and Libya was discussed.
Libya and Syria, Moscow and Ankara support the opposing groups and cannot act as partners, despite agreements and constant contacts.
As for the Eastern Mediterranean, it is a question of gas production on the shelf off the coast of Turkey, which is causing confrontation between Greece and the European Union.
For Moscow, the gas issue is of fundamental importance, that Ankara has sharply reduced gas purchases from Russia and the multibillion-dollar Turkish Stream gas pipeline is actually idle. -02D-
