Putin, Macron Call for De-escalation of Karabakh Conflict
Baku / 01.10.20 / Turan: The Kremlin press service reported on a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron, which took place on the evening of September 30 at the initiative of Paris.
The Presidents thoroughly discussed the sharp aggravation of the situation in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Serious concern was expressed over the ongoing large-scale hostilities.
Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron called on the warring parties for an early and complete ceasefire, de-escalation of tension and the exercise of maximum restraint.
It was noted that there is no alternative to the settlement of the crisis by political and diplomatic methods. In this context, specific parameters of further interaction were considered, primarily in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group.
They expressed their readiness to make a statement on behalf of the leaders of the co-chairing states of the Minsk Group (Russia, France and the United States) in favor of an immediate end to the armed confrontation and the resumption of the negotiation process.
The situation after the presidential elections in Belarus was also touched upon. The Russian side reaffirmed its “principled position” on the inadmissibility of any attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and external pressure on the legitimate authorities.
It was agreed on further contacts, according to the website of the President of the Russian Federation.
