Richest Man in Armenia Arrested
Baku / 26.09.20 / Turan: Late in the evening the Yerevan court arrested the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party and the richest man in this country, Gagik Tsarukyan.
He is charged with large-scale tax evasion, fraud and other crimes. He faces a long prison term.
It is noteworthy that Tsarukyan was one of those who supported Nikol Pashinyan's coming to power, but then sharp disagreements arose between them.
It got to the point that Tsarukyan publicly called for Pashinyan's resignation, noting that otherwise Armenia would face a catastrophe.
Then Tsarukyan agreed to an alliance with the Dashnaks and ex-Minister of Security Vanetsyan and announced a joint rally of the three parties on October 8, demanding the resignation of the Pashinyan government.
Thus, two out of three political factions in parliament have become opposed to the government, which so far has a majority and retains control over the legislature.
Apparently, the predictions that the situation in Armenia will worsen in the fall are beginning to come true. -02D-
