The newly appointed Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiev, was elected the new president of the Federation for a period of 5 years instead of Rovnag Abdullayev.
The head of SOCAR, Abdullayev, has served as president of the Judo Federation since 2015.
Abdullayev is also the head of the national football federation.
After the failed performance of Azerbaijani judokas at the last Olympics in the summer of 2021, all the coaches of the men's team were dismissed.
Thus, at the Games in Tokyo, Azerbaijan was represented by 7 judokas, and only one of them reached the ¼ final. For comparison, at the previous Olympics in Rio, Azerbaijani judokas won two silver medals.
And only in women's judo in Tokyo, one of the two athletes, Irina Kindzerskaya, won bronze medal.–06В-
