Baku / 10.11.20 / Turan: Il-76 military transports departed from the airfield in Ulyanovsk. The core of the Russian peacekeeping contingent will be the units of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Central Military District, RBC reports.

Russia sent a peacekeeping contingent to Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense, TASS reports.

"To control the ceasefire and military operations in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is deployed in the amount of 1,960 military personnel, 90 armored personnel carriers, 380 units of automobile and special equipment," the Defense Ministry said.

The Ministry noted that the peacekeepers went to the disputed region by Il-76 military transport aircraft from the Ulyanovsk airfield. The main contingent will be subdivisions of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Central Military District.

The entry of Russian peacekeepers is one of the conditions of the trilateral agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, signed on the evening of November 9 by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In addition to the aforementioned contingent, a ceasefire control center will be deployed in the disputed region. The Russian military will also control the Lachin corridor.

At the same time, Aliyev said that a joint peacekeeping contingent of Russia and Turkey would be deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh. “There will be a joint peacekeeping mission of Russia and Turkey. This is a new format,” he said during talks with Putin on November 10.

At the same time, the official text of the trilateral agreement does not contain a clause on the presence of the Turkish military in the disputed region.

Airat Gibatdinov, vice-speaker of the legislative assembly of the Ulyanovsk region, said that the 31st airborne assault brigade of the Russian armed forces is leaving for Nagorno-Karabakh.

The 31st brigade took part in the Second Chechen War, as well as in the Russian-Georgian war in 2008. — 0—
