Russian MP urged to give Baku the title "Hero City"
Moscow / 17.01.20 / Turan: In 2020, the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War will be celebrated. In this regard, the State Duma of Russia discussed a bill on the legal basis for conferring the title of "City of Labor Valor."
In this regard, Deputy Dmitry Savelyev recalled that the title Hero City today is not only Russian cities, but also cities that, after the collapse of the USSR, became the territory of other states, in particular - Odessa, Kiev and the Brest Fortress.
Savelyev’s speech sent to the Turan agency said:
“Now, when we are discussing the high status of the city of labor valor, this precedent must be taken into account: cities in the post-Soviet space are worthy of this title. For example, the question of awarding the title of the hero city of Baku has been raised more than once.
During the Second World War, Baku residents worked around the clock, supplying fuel for Soviet tanks and aircraft. In Azerbaijan, during the war years, the posters "Our Stalingrad - at each well" hung - and this was so, from here came 80% of all the fuel needed by the Soviet army.
Russia is the successor of the USSR, and secondly, our state has always unequivocally followed the political course towards preserving the historical memory of our people.
Today we live in different countries, but we can pay tribute to those who died at the front and those who worked for the needs of the front day and night. Therefore, I would like to take into account in this bill the possibility of conferring this high rank on Baku,” said Dmitry Savelyev. -02D-
