Russia’s Flagrant Violation Of International Law 'Matters To Nations Everywhere', Biden Says
Washington/27.04.23/Turan: U.S. President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that Russia’s flagrant violation of international law "matters to nations everywhere in the world, not just in Europe"
"The Republic of Korea’s strong support for Ukraine is important," Biden said during afternoon Rose Garden news conference with South Korea’s Yoon Suk Yeol, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports from the White House.
Biden went on to elaborate: "When it comes right down to it, it’s about what you believe, what you stand for, what kind of future you want for your children and grandchildren. And right now, I believe the world is at an inflection point. The choices we make today, I believe, are going to determine the direction of our world and the future of our kids for decades to come"
He also thanked the Republic of Korea for co-chairing the second Summit on Democracies last month and for hosting the next, third Summit for Democracies.
"We both understand that our democracies and our people are our greatest sources of strength. And working together, they make our nations stronger and more effective," he said.
President Yoon, in his turn, said that violence cannot be justified, "for example Russia's invasion of Ukraine,”
Biden and the South Korean leader met to sign the deal in a show of support to Seoul in the face of increasing nuclear threats from North Korea.
Called the “Washington Declaration,” the plan will see the U.S. increase the number of weapons that dock at or visit South Korean ports temporarily. The U.S. will also deploy nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea for the first time since the 1980s, according to a new agreement signed between the two countries.
Biden reiterated that any nuclear attack by Pyongyang against the U.S. or allies and partners is "unacceptable and will result in the end of whatever regime were to take such an action.”

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
