Rustam Ibrahimbekov had important meetings in Washington, DC

The head of the National Council Rustam Ibrahimbekov sent a message from Washington to members of the public with information about his meetings.

From 10 to 15 June he held important meetings at the State Department, the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as with human rights organizations.

During the talks, they considered issues of the presidential election of 2013, the return to the Azerbaijani people of their constitutional right to form power, expansion of democratic processes in the country and the role of the U.S. in this regard.

"The first time I held a wide-ranging discussion on this important topic with Uzra Zeya, Deputy of the State Department, Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Melia and Catherine Kaye, the directors of the three leading departments. The discussions were held in an atmosphere of high trust and mutual understanding.

In Congress, I met with the senator, the chairman of one of the biggest commissions - Helsinki Commission Benjamin Cardin and Senator Roger Wicker.

In the office of Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Robert Menendez, I met with Jason Bruder and others," Ibrahimbekov wrote.
Also, meetings were held at the Carnegie Foundation and the Foundation to support the national democracy.
"U.S. officials have assured me that they will do everything they can to achieve democratic elections in Azerbaijan. In addition, they stressed that it all depends on the people of Azerbaijan," Ibrahimbekov said.

"Responsible U.S. officials spoke about the importance of participation of the National Council in the elections with a single candidate and a single platform. In early July, a delegation of senators led by Senator Wicker is expected to visit Baku. I asked him apart from the meetings with the President and other officials to be sure to meet with representatives of the National Council," the statement says.
Finally Ibrahimbekov wrote that from the U.S. he would go to Europe for meetings in the European Union and the Council of Europe, and then would travel to Russia and Turkey. -02D-
