Security officials begin investigation against massmedia

Baku / 09.07.18 / Turan: Law enforcement agencies have launched investigations into violations of the law in the course of media coverage and discussions in the social networks of an armed attack on the head of Ganja ElmarVeliyev, stated in the message of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan. Thus, on July 3, Russian citizen YunusSafarov committedattack on the head of Ganja,ElmarVeliyev, and a police officer GasymAshbazov.According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan, officials of some media, as well as individuals in the information resources of the Internet, disseminated untrue provocative information in connection with this crime.

This information was aimed at misleading people public into public outrage, violating the socio-political situation, supporting terrorism, mistrust of population towards the measures of the state, and discrediting the activities of law enforcement agencies in combating crime.

In addition, the information banned by law, as well as open calls for terrorism, forcible seizure of power and the constitutional order were published.

In this regard, in connection with some posts, outposts and comments on some profile social networks, a lawsuit has been filedunder Article 214-2 (open calls for terrorism) of the Criminal Code.

In addition, in connection with the calls for illegal actions, forcible seizure of power and the change in the constitutional system, a lawsuit has been filed under the Articles 281.1 (open appeals against the state) of the Criminal Code.

These cases were sent to the State Security Service for preliminary investigation. And now operatively-investigation actions for finding theguilty persons and their bringing to responsibility are ongoing.

The message reads that despite the responsible persons of the sites criminalaz.com and bastainfo.com were twice warned by the General Prosecutor in accordance with Article 10 of the Law on Mass Media, again in violation of the legislation, on July 3-6, aimed at misleading the public, violating the socio-political situation, supporting terrorism, creating mistrust to the measures of the state, as well as information banned for publication.

A lawsuit was filed under theArticle 313 (official forgery, that is, deliberately publishing false information) of the Criminal Code. The investigation was entrusted to the city prosecutor's office.

The heads of the websites topxeber.az and fia.az have been warned.It was also decided to apply to the Ministry of Communications to restrict access to the websites bastainfo.com, criminalaz.com, topxeber.az andfia.az.

The Prosecutor General's Office calls on the media, as well as users of social networks on the Internet, to comply with the provisions of the media law and refrain from publishing information aimed at undermining social and political stability, supporting terrorism, bringing panic among the population, calling for terrorist acts against statesmen, appointing illegal actions, power and constitutional order.Otherwise, measures will be taken against such persons.

It should be noted that the attempt on ElmarVeliyev provoked active discussions in social networks on the Internet. At the same time, critical opinions were expressed about his activities as head of Ganja, and contained calls to support YunisSafarov who attacked him.

It should be noted that the heads of the websites criminalaz.comиbastainfo.com -AnarMammadov and Mustafa Hajibeyli are currently in the Baku city prosecutor's office. -16D-
