Shahbaz Sherif outlined the goals of his visit to Azerbaijan
Baku/14.06.23/Turan: Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sherif today, before departing on an official visit to Baku, named priority issues of cooperation that he will discuss with the leadership of Azerbaijan.
"The visit (to Azerbaijan) is part of our government's policy to strengthen bilateral cooperation and build mutually beneficial partnerships. In addition to speeding up the early completion of the Preferential Trade Agreement, I will hold important talks with the leadership of Azerbaijan to open up opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy, banking, financial services and information technology," he wrote on Twitter.
The Sheriff expressed the intention of the Pakistani side to transform "excellent bilateral political ties" also in "strong trade and investment relations". "Central Asia occupies a central place in our energy security policy, and we are striving to intensify cooperation with the region to make Pakistan energy safe," Sherif stressed.
The Sheriff's visit will take place on June 14-15. ---06B---

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
