Shoigu arrives in Baku from Tehran

On 6 August, President Ilham Aliyev received a Russian delegation headed by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.

The delegation also included Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Russian Presidential Aide Igor Levitin.

On the Azerbaijani side, the meeting was attended by the head of the Security Council Ramil Usubov, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Yagub Eyubov.

As reported by the website of the head of state, the parties noted the successful development of bilateral relations in all areas.

Aliyev emphasized that discussions are held regularly with Russian President Vladimir Putin adding the activities of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the meeting of which will soon be held in Baku.

According to him, Azerbaijani-Russian relations can be a model for some neighboring states, which is an important factor of security in the South Caucasus and beyond.

Shoigu, in turn, noted the successful resolution of issues on the bilateral agenda, such as the North-South transport corridor project. He added the Moscow's support for the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

During the meeting, the prospects for regional cooperation in the 3+3 format were also discussed.--

Recall that the Russian delegation arrived in Baku from Tehran, where Shoigu met with Iranian President Pezeshkian on 5 August. At this meeting, the Iranian President called Russia "one of the countries that supported Iran in difficult days".

"We believe that the era of a uni-polar world dominated by some powers, including the US, has passed. Iran and Russia's joint stance and co-operation to promote a multi-polar world will lead to increased security and peace in the world," Pezeshkian said.

Shoigu had also meetings with National Security Council Secretary Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Iranian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Mohammad Bagheri. The meetings discussed regional security and bilateral military co-operation.
