Situation on Border Remains Tense - Ilham Aliyev (updated)
Baku / 13.07.20 / Turan: The next provocation of Armenia was resolutely suppressed and the enemy received an adequate response. This was stated by President Ilham Aliyev on Monday at a meeting of the Security Council of the country, commenting on the hostilities in the Tovuz direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“Our servicemen were avenged. All attempts of the Armenian side failed, Azerbaijan defended its state border, and Armenian soldiers were unable to enter the Azerbaijani territory,” AZERTAC quoted Aliyev as saying.
According to him, the situation at the border remains tense. “Last night I was in touch with all the relevant structures and commanders. This morning I was informed of the operational situation; the situation at the border has not stabilized. All responsibility lies with the military-political leadership of Armenia,” Aliyev continued.
“On the one hand, they turn to the international community and ask for help to strengthen the ceasefire on the contact line of the troops, and on the other, they fire at our villages and civilians, committing provocations, and they want to seize our positions,” Aliyev said.
Azerbaijan will continue to protect its borders and territorial integrity. The devastating blows inflicted on the enemy yesterday afternoon and tonight have once again demonstrated this. “The dead soldiers were avenged,” the President said.
“Azerbaijan will never reconcile with the occupation of its territories and will do everything possible to restore its territorial integrity,” the President emphasized.
According to Aliyev, appropriate appeals were made to international organizations and as soon as the operational situation allows, military representatives of foreign states will be invited to this territory.
“Let them see with their own eyes who committed this military provocation, what happened and who is responsible for the escalation,” Aliyev said. -0-

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan rejected Ilham Aliyev's demands for Yerevan to stop acquiring weapons. "Armenia has acquired and will continue to acquire weapons solely for the purpose of self-defense. Over 200 square kilometers of our sovereign territory is under the control of Azerbaijan. And even to regain these territories, we do not intend to consider military action, but rather a process of demarcation. So, we are buying weapons and have no intention of sending them back," he stated.
