Six Officers of MNS Arrested Along with Chovdarov
Last Saturday six high-ranking officers of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) were arrested along with General Akif Chovdarov. Turan was informed by a source familiar with the details of the case. The decision to arrest them for three months was issued by the Sabail District Court of Baku.
The arrested are accused under three articles of the Criminal Code - 302, 308, 309 (exceeding official duties, violation of operational and investigative activities and abuse of power).
The source stressed that this is only a preliminary charges, which is likely to be followed by more serious charges.
The total number of the arrested MNS officers has already reached two dozen people. But the exact number is unclear. Besides the arrested, lots of people have been dismissed from the MNS.
The purge launched after the dismissal of Minister Eldar Mahmudov on October 17 continues. -03D-
