Siyavush Novruzov against parliamentary and civil control over the Sun
Baku/15.12.17/Turan: During the debate on December 15 at the plenary session of the parliament of the draft of the new law "On the Armed Forces", a controversy began over the question of who the defense minister should be - military or civilian? "I believe that at the head of the army should be a professional military man. For our country is at war. In some countries, the Minister of Defense is a civilian, and therefore some of us are in favor of it. But in the law of the country, which is at war, such a norm should not be," said Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Siyavush Novruzov.
He further stated that the press should not publish information about the army outside the official messages of the military themselves. Novruzov also spoke out against parliamentary and civil control over the army. He pointedly stated that the Supreme Commander-in-Chief is in charge of control of the armed forces. In turn, MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev opposed the idea of restricting coverage of the army's activity on the part of the media only by publishing official reports.
In his opinion, professional media and journalists should write about the Armed Forces. If the media does not write about the problems in the army, then they will only grow. Deputy Defense Minister Kerim Veliyev noted that the press should be careful in covering the activities of the army. "This is a very sensitive issue. We are at war. Any negative case in enemy propaganda works against us," said the representative of the military department. The bill "On the Armed Forces" was adopted today in the second reading. -16D06-
