Stadium built in Shamakha but will there be a soccer club in the town?
Baku/02.11.21/Turan: With the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a soccer stadium was opened in the town of Shamakha, 100 km west of Baku.
This sports arena with a capacity of 2,200 fans will receive a certificate of the second category of UEFA due to the creation of conditions for international matches. This is stated in the AFFA (Azerbaijan Football Federations Association) official report.
In particular, matches of the qualifying rounds of UEFA club competitions, as well as national team games and teams of all age categories can be held at this stadium.
Note that 87 percent of the funding for the construction of the stadium was provided by the UEFA, 13 percent - AFFA.
The sports complex on the territory of the stadium also includes a sports hall for judo and wrestling, as well as a gym. Besides, two mini pitches with artificial turf and stands for 300 fans were created on the stadium territory.
It is hopeful that after the construction of the modern stadium, Shamakha which was the capital of the Azerbaijani state of Shirvanshahs for many centuries, will finally have its own professional soccer club. -06D-
