The Azerbaijani-British political consultations in London
A wide range of issues of the Azerbaijani-British relations were discussed yesterday in London at the comsulations on political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The delegations of the parties were headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and Minister of State of Great Britain for European Affairs David Lidington. During the meeting it was noted that the political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Great Britain is at a high level. At the same time it expressed confidence that took place on February 11 in London, the first meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission Azerbaijan - United Kingdom will contribute to the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the non-energy sector.
The isue of Karabakh settlement was also touched upon. Khalafov praised the British position regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. He stressed the need to step on the part of the United Kingdom, aimed at curbing illegal visits to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Minister of State, David Lidington, in turn, said that he attaches special importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan and stressed the existing potential for expansion of bilateral relations. Lidington added that the United Kingdom does not recognize the separatist regime and does not have any relationship with him at the official level. Lidington assured that his country will continue to firmly support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.-06D-

On September 18, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with a delegation led by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Joshua Huck. The meeting focused on issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the regional situation in the post-conflict period, and the prospects for normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Despite efforts to create a positive dynamic in bilateral relations and cooperation prospects, biased opinions from certain U.S. officials negatively impact our bilateral relations," the statement noted.

Economist and PhD candidate at Istanbul University Fazil Gasimov has been on a hunger strike for 97 days at the Penitentiary Service Medical Facility. On September 17, he was visited by representatives from the Baku office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, according to his lawyer Rovshan Rahimli. The lawyer stated that the Penitentiary Service is applying pressure on Gasimov to end his hunger strike.
