The Azerbaijani Party of Democracy and Prosperity (APDP) condemns pressure on Ziyafat Abbasova
Baku/08.06.23/Turan: The Azerbaijani Party of Democracy and Prosperity (APDp) has issued a statement condemning the pressure of the Azerbaijani authorities on the activist of this organization Ziyafat Abbasova.
The document states that on June 6, the police forcibly took her from the shelter where she lives and took her to a psychiatric hospital, despite the absence of any mental health problems.
The APDP is convinced that this was due to Abbasova's active civic position, her participation in protest actions, her sharp critical speeches on social networks against the authorities.
"The government's lack of tolerance towards its critics, intolerance caused by authoritarian thinking, blindness to real social, legal and democratic freedoms lead to the adoption of such cruel decisions that people who tell the truth are sent even to psychological dispensaries," the APDP statement further says.
Taking into account the presence of Abbasova's hereditary blood disease, and her need for serious treatment, the APDP holds the country's leadership responsible for the possible consequences of forceful actions against the activist on the country's leadership.
"According to the available information, despite Abbasova's health, who was transferred to a regular hospital, the police falsify the grounds for further prosecution of the activist and justification of previous illegal actions against her," the APDP statement further says.
The party demands an immediate end to the persecution of the activist. ---06D---
