The Court of Appeal leaves Eldar Hasanov in custody
Baku/10.03.22/ Turan: On March 10, a meeting was held in the Baku Court of Appeal on a complaint against the ex-ambassador of Azerbaijan to Serbia and the ex-prosecutor general of the country Eldar Hasanov.
Lawyer Javad Javadov told Turan that the defense petitioned to change the measure of restraint to house arrest, as well as to conduct a second judicial investigation.
However, the court, not satisfying any of the petitions, scheduled the consideration of the complaint on the merits for March 18. Javadov also pointed out that the Hasans still have serious health problems.
Eldar Hasanov was arrested by the State Security Service in July 2020 at the same time as several other employees of the Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In January of this year, the Baku Serious Crimes Court found him guilty under the Article 179.3.2 (misappropriation and embezzlement), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of proceeds from crime) 308.2 (abuse of official powers resulting in grave consequences) 308-1.1 (misuse of budgetary funds) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
It is interesting that three other high-ranking employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who were arrested at the same time as Hasanov and accused of embezzlement of a similar scale, were very soon released from custody, and subsequently sentenced to a suspended sentence.
Hasanov himself stated in court that he was a victim of intrigues against him within the authorities and incorrectly informing the president of the country about him. --16В--
