The Court of Appeal upholds the decision of the CEC not admit A.Oruj to elections

The Baku Court of Appeal  upheld the CEC decision to refuse registration  of Ahmed Oruj,  the head of "Svoboda" party, as a presidential candidate.

This decision was made based on the results of the re-examination of signatures of voters  in favor of Orudj, which the CEC recognized invalid.

The Baku Court of Appeal  re-examined the complaint  of Orudj, after the Supreme Court remanded the case to the appellate court.

Hafiz Hasanov,  the Head of the Law and Development Center, protecting the rights of Oruj called the decision of the Court of Appeal  unfounded.

"Re-examination was  conducted only yesterday. It is impossible to re-examine 7.5 million signatures in less than a day. Moreover, the examination was conducted  not by an independent body, but by the Expertise Center  of the Justice Ministry. The methodology on the basis of which these experts recognized signatures as  invalid is not clear, " said Hasanov.

CEC called 7,578 of the 43,413 signatures submitted to the Central Election Commission, invalid.—06B--
