Baku/29.04.21/Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) sent a request to the Azerbaijani government in accordance with Rule 39 of the Court's Regulations in connection with the health of the ex-ambassador and former prosecutor general Eldar Hasanov.

In an appeal to the European Court, a request was made to provide an invitation to Eldar Hasanov for doctors of his choice, an examination in a private clinic and an operation planned even before his arrest, the lawyer Javad Javadov wrote on Facebook. “The European Court considered our appeal and sent a document to the authorities, where questions were raised and the government should answer them as soon as possible,” Javadov said.

He expressed regret that there was no reaction to the appeal of the lawyers to the President of Azerbaijan through the media. According to him, Hasanov's  health continues to deteriorate.

“I am ashamed that the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office is indifferent to our appeals about the need to provide adequate medical assistance to Eldar Hasanov. It is also a shame that an elementary humanitarian issue cannot be resolved within the country and one has to apply to the ECHR,” Javadov said.

According to him, the investigation plans to extend the term of Hasanov's arrest for another three months. At the request of Turan, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported that the case against Hasanov was being conducted objectively and a forensic medical examination was appointed based on the appeals of the defense.

Eldar Hasanov, who served as the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina, was arrested on August 13, 2020 by the State Security Service, and on April 14, the Sabail Court of Baku arrested him on charges of abuse of office (308.2), illegal spending of budgetary funds (308 -1.1 of the country's Criminal Code).

In the 90s, the ambitious Eldar Hasanov served as the country's prosecutor general. He was fired for no apparent reason. Later, government circles began to spread the opinion that Hasanov claimed power and was considered by certain circles as a possible successor to Heydar Aliyev. Later, after the transfer of Hasanov to diplomatic work, there were rumors about his political ambitions. -0-
