Tbilisidə panel müzakirə
The government of Azerbaijan is against all, Leyla Mustafayeva
Baku/22.07.17/Turan: Panel discussions took place in Tbilisi in connection with the journalist Afgan Mukhtaryli, who was abducted on May 29. They are supported by the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR).
Leyla Mustafayeva, the spouse of Afgan Mukhtarly, the director of the organization Freedom Now, Maran Turner, the legal adviser of the organization EHRAC Ramute Remezaite, the lawyer of Mukhtarly in Georgia, Archil Chopikashvili and Simon Papuashvili as moderator also took part in the event.
Leyla Mustafayeva was asked why Georgia was chosen as the country of residence after she left Azerbaijan. Does she feel safe in this country?
Leyla Mustafayeva noted that, in comparison with other countries of the region, Georgia is a country in which independent activity is possible. Approximately after one and a half years of residence in Georgia, they began to observe the pressure of the Azerbaijani government on Georgia and the expansion of economic ties. They did not think they would be legally charged under any article, they did not expect the kidnapping of Afghanistan.
Answering the question about security, Leyla Mustafayeva frankly admitted that after the abduction of her husband, she for the first 10 days laid the door with a chair. Through the streets she went very carefully.
Maran Turner and Ramoute Remezaitė, in turn, noted that this kind of event for the dissident is depressing. The international media should focus on this issue.
Then the lawyer Archil Chopikashvili noted that from a legal point of view this case dealt a serious blow to Georgia's reputation. The investigation is wrong, there is an imitation of the investigation, said the lawyer.
The event was also attended by representatives of local media and civil society.
