Baku/22.07.17/Turan: On Friday, when answering the questions of young Russian talents in the Sochi center of Sirius, Vladimir Putin said he was in a hurry, because in an hour he had a "difficult conversation" with Ilham Aliyev. If the meeting with the Azerbaijani President was expected complicated, that he could not stand it, and shared it in a completely different audience?
Then the media reported on the meeting of the presidents. "The leaders of the two countries discussed the issues of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, as well as the situation in the Caucasus region. It is not easy, said Vladimir Putin, but just such meetings of leaders make it possible to find solutions to complex problems, "TV Center" noted. Ilham Aliyev confirmed that the cooperation of our countries is developing successfully and expressed the hope that the meeting with the Russian president will serve to further strengthen it."
In the words of I. Aliyev, in fact, there is no information, and from what he said about Putin it becomes clear that the Karabakh problem was at the center of the Sochi meeting. Still, Putin will not ask Aliyev"s opinion about the Russian-Georgian relations. And the most difficult in the region are the Azerbaijani-Armenian relations.
All the previous week there was an alarming lull on the Karabakh front. Even snipers were silent. The order for a real cease-fire is always given by Azerbaijani commanders on the eve of important interstate negotiations, and immediately after them a military escalation begins.
The Azerbaijanis expected a meeting in Sochi with alarm. In discussions, everyone started from his point of view. Chairman of the Union of the Liberation of Karabakh Akif Nagy believed that Putin called Aliyev to exchange the prisoner in Baku for three years of imprisonment of blogger Lapshin on the Azeris detained in the Armenian prison Dilgam Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev. "There are certain signs (Baku's stated readiness to extradite a blogger - Ed.), others are not visible. When Putin goes on vacation in Sochi, calls the heads of state to talk, showing himself "master" - made an analogy of Stalin with A.Nagy.
Journalist Vugar Hasanov agrees with the official statement of the organizers of the meeting that the problems of the region were discussed in Sochi. "Moscow feels that Azerbaijan is getting out of its subordination. Russia does not want war in Karabakh. It is also possible that Putin suggested that Aliyev send Azerbaijani servicemen to Syria to implement the idea of sending peacekeepers from the CIS to Moscow thrown in by Moscow.
Zia Huseynli also suggests Moscow's concern over the rapprochement of Azerbaijan with the West. Political scientist Elkhan Shainoglu states the concern of the Azerbaijani public caused by the Russian president's unexpected desire to see I.Aliyev. "In Armenia, this meeting is more alarmed. They ask: will Putin put pressure on Armenia more closely by coordinating it with Aliyev?
In any case, I do not think that the Sochi meeting will speed up the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Quite the opposite: the Kremlin is concerned about the increasing pressure of the Azerbaijani army on the occupier and in any ways brings this concern to our leaders," the political scientist believes. -0--
