The head of the US diplomatic mission at the conference to combating trafficking
Baku /30.07.18/Turan: The Chargé d'Affaires in the US Affairs in Azerbaijan William Gill, opening today a conference on the occasion of the World Day Against Human Trafficking in the regional of Gusar, noted the importance of joint efforts against trafficking. The conference was organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with funding from the US government, including USAID. The ways of solving this problem were discussed by diplomats from various countries, Azerbaijani officials, experts on this topic.
The head of the US diplomatic mission said: "According to reports of the International Labor Organization, the number of victims of the slave trade in the world is about 25 million people."
He told the story of a brave Azeri woman, conditionally calling her Gulnara, who became a victim of trafficking, but as a result of the cooperation of the Azerbaijani government, USAID and IOM, she found refuge, having the opportunity to continue her life with dignity.
Gill stressed the importance of joint cooperation in this area. "For many years the US, working together with Azerbaijan and other countries, has been fighting against this phenomenon, helping such victims as Gulnara.
The US assistance to Azerbaijan consisted of financing shelters for victims of trafficking, giving instructions to professionals who provide medical assistance to victims, as well as strengthening the activities of relevant ministries," Gill said. -06D--

On October 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing Georgian citizens to enter Russia for work or for a period of up to 90 days without a visa. The decree takes effect immediately.
