The ICRC has been informed about the serious health of Gubad Ibadoglu
Baku/07.08.23/Turan: Today, Galib Bayramov, the brother of GUbad Ibadoglu, the arrested chairman of the Azerbaijani Party of Democracy and Welfare (APDW) met with a representative of the Baku office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in places of detention, Bayramov told. He informed the representative of the ICRC about the conditions of Ibadoglu's detention, as well as his health.
"I said that we are very concerned about the sharp deterioration of Gubad Ibadoglu's health. I asked the Red Cross, within its mandate, to intervene. The representative of the ICRC made certain notes. The Red Cross registered our appeal. Apparently, they will move on to action from tomorrow," Bayramov said. According to him, Ibadoglu's health is getting worse.
"The blood sugar level does not drop to normal in any way. There are sharp jumps in blood pressure. In addition, heart problems worsened. His aorta has expanded to a critical level and there is a risk of its rupture. High blood sugar levels have already begun to negatively affect the functioning of other organs – vision has deteriorated, kidney problems have arisen. All this was recorded by doctors invited by the penitentiary service. Perhaps there are other problems, they are being hidden from us," Bayramov said.
According to him, being kept in a cramped, unventilated cell negatively affects the health of a politician. Ibadoglu is not allowed to meet with his family members, which is also psychological pressure.
*The head of the Azerbaijani Democracy and Welfare Party, Gubad Ibadoglu, was detained on July 23 in the afternoon. On Monday , he was charged under Article 204 .3.1 (manufacture for marketing purposes, as well as the acquisition or sale of counterfeit money or foreign currency as part of an organized group) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Under this article, he faces a sentence of imprisonment from 8 to 12 years. On July 24, the court arrested him for the period of investigation for a period of 4 months. Local and human rights organizations condemned the persecution of Ibadoglu and demanded his release.
Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner.
** In June, Ibadoglu, together with the head of the National Council, Professor Jamil Hasanli and disgraced diplomat Arif Mammadov, who is in political exile in Europe, announced the creation of the Azerbaijani Youth Education Fund, which was registered in London. Ibadoglu took the initiative to confiscate the property of Azerbaijani officials abroad and transfer these funds to the mentioned Fund. ---16d---
