The lawyer reported the bias and unfoundedness of the criminal case against F. Gasimov
Fazil Gasimov, arrested in the criminal case of the scientist-economist Gubad Ibadoglu, continues his hunger strike in the pre-trial detention center, which began on June 14.
Turan was informed about this by lawyer Telman Gasimov, who visited F. Gasimov on June 20.
The lawyer noted that F. Gasimov complained about health problems that arose after physical pressure was placed on him after his arrest.
“He said he still has pain and damage to his head. He suffered stress and nervous shock,” the lawyer said.
He noted that F. Gasimov intends to continue the hunger strike until the criminal prosecution is stopped.
“Of course, I urgently asked him to stop the hunger strike, because it was harmful to his health. But he said that he would continue the hunger strike, and this is his right,” noted lawyer T. Gasimov.
In the personal opinion of the lawyer, the criminal case against F. Gasimov is “biased and unfounded.”
“He lived in Turkey for three years and suddenly he is accused of coming to Baku and ‘selling counterfeit dollars’ to someone...” the lawyer continued.
Earlier, human rights defender Rufat Safarov said Gasymov was tortured and subjected to degrading treatment during his detention and later forced to incriminate Ibadoglu. He later recanted his testimony against Ibadoglu.
Recall that economist Fazil Gasymov was detained last August in Turkey and taken to Azerbaijan, where he was accused of making counterfeit money. Pro-government media reported at the time that his arrest was linked to the case of opposition politician Gubad Ibadoglu, who faced similar charges.
