The leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan are establishing closer ties through agreements and landmark projects
Baku/25.09.23/Turan: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed 3 agreements in various fields between the two countries. President Erdogan, who is in Nakhchivan on a one-day working visit, held a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on September 25. The meeting of the Presidents took place in the Supreme Mejlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and was held in a one-on-one format.
After the meeting, a ceremony of signing agreements between the two countries took place in the presence of Erdogan and Aliyev. President Erdogan and President Aliyev signed the "Protocol of Intent between the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Kars-Nakhchivan railway project".
"The signing of the Protocol of Intent on the construction of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway is also a historic event. I am confident that this project will be successfully implemented and, thus, will serve both Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries as a branch of the Middle Corridor," Erdogan said.
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Ojaseki and Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev signed an agreement on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the construction of residential buildings, primary schools, kindergartens, cultural centers in the province of Kahramanmarash of the Republic of Turkey.
The document providing for the continuation of the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan in the field of electric power was signed by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov.
The ceremony of laying the foundation of the Igdyr-Nakhchivan gas pipeline by the presidents was also held here. The Presidents took part in the opening of the Nakhchivan Reconstruction and production military complex. Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $ 6 billion.
Aliyev noted that over the seven months of this year, the trade turnover has grown by another 40 percent and will grow even more, said: “True, the goal is measured by very high figures. Some time ago, we aimed at a trade turnover of $ 15 billion. At that time, the trade turnover was about $2 billion. But now it has exceeded $6 billion. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
