The UN should be reformed, and Armenia and Azerbaijan should sign a peace treaty - I.Aliyev
Baku/28.01.23/Turan: The UN should be reformed, the composition of the Security Council should be expanded. This was stated on Saturday at a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi, the head of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
According to him, one permanent seat in Security Council should be given to a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation itself should nominate this candidate. Another permanent seat must be given to the Non-Aligned Movement, and this seat must be held by the country chairing the Movement.
“Almost 80 years have passed since the Second World War, the world has changed, and these changes continue at a rapid pace. Therefore, I believe that these reforms will serve to create a more just and secure world,” Aliyev said.
Referring to the outcome of the talks with the head of Egypt, Aliyev said that they discussed issues of regional security, deepening cooperation in the field of security.
“We have decided to strengthen our joint fight against international terrorism, which is very necessary. Because international terrorism is a great threat to the whole world, and it will be possible to successfully fight this threat only as a result of joint efforts,” Aliyev stressed.
“I also informed the distinguished guest about the situation in our region. The Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has ended. Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan and will always be so. We have come close to peace, but it has not yet been reached. A peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia will lead to peace, otherwise the danger of destabilization of the region will continue,” Aliyev continued.
In response, the President of Egypt noted that the talks with Aliyev were held "in a very pleasant and positive atmosphere." The parties agreed to continue the political dialogue, develop cooperation in the economic, trade and cultural fields. An agreement was reached on increasing trade turnover and cooperation in the field of electricity production, mutual investment, and increasing direct flights
“During the meeting, we stressed the importance of political dialogue in the world, that it is not worth resolving issues by military force. The Russian-Ukrainian crisis has dealt another blow to the international economy and security, when the world has not yet recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic. This has had a negative impact on the international economy and trade, food security, energy, shipping, tourism and pharmaceuticals,” the Egyptian president said.
Today the official visit of Abdelfattah Al-Sisi to Azerbaijan ended and he left for Armenia. -02D-

It seems that the Kremlin's hopes that Donald Trump's return to power in the U.S. would be beneficial for Russia have not come to fruition. Upon returning to the White House, Donald Trump stated that he plans to meet with Putin soon. However, he also declared that Putin is "destroying Russia" by refusing to make peace and end the war in Ukraine.
