The US Congressman condemns the closure of Radio "Azadlig"
A member of the US Congress, Bill Keating, condemned the Azerbaijani authorities for the closure of Radio "Azadlig" in Baku. The statement of the Congressman, published online radio, said: "I am extremely concerned about the attack by the Azerbaijani authorities on the US and international NGOs, as well as on independent media." Keating noted that the authorities closed IREX, NDI, Peace corps and others organizations that were engaged in helping the citizens of Azerbaijan.
"The final goal of the authorities was the Baku bureau of Radio "Azadlig"(Liberty.) This fact, as well as arrests of journalists and human rights defenders Khadija Ismailova Leyla Yunus casts doubt on the Azerbaijani authorities to partner with the United States and the West in general, " said Keating.
Congressman considers impossible such an attitude of the authorities to their own citizens and the media, and calls on the Obama administration to take adequate steps in a similar situation. -02D-
