The US President called on Yerevan and Baku to start substantive negotiations
Baku/05.08.21/Turan: US President Joe Biden sent congratulations to Nikol Pashinyan on the formation of a new government.
"The United States is committed to assist the parties in comprehensive peace making under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group. We call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to start substantive negotiations as soon as possible.
The United States was happy to help in the release of Armenian prisoners of war from Azerbaijan. We will continue to call for the safe return of all prisoners of war. We hope that the progress we have made in this area with the support of Georgia will form an important basis for further regional cooperation in addition to the discussions initiated by the Minsk Group co-chairs,"the Armenian media quoted Biden as saying. -02D-

Elnur Hasanov, an activist of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), who was sentenced to three years in prison on drug-related charges, began a hunger strike on December 3. According to the APFP, Hasanov is protesting against his failure to be transferred to a correctional facility and the denial of meetings with his relatives.
