Trump to Speak with Putin After Inauguration

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has instructed his team to organize a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the days following his inauguration on January 20. This was reported by CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to CNN, one of the goals of the upcoming conversation is to discuss the possibility of a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders in the coming months. The primary topic of this meeting is expected to be the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Trump’s team hopes to swiftly develop a plan for the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis that can be implemented within the first months of his presidency, potentially including direct negotiations with Putin.

Earlier, Trump’s national security adviser Michael Waltz stated that a phone call between Trump and Putin could take place "in the coming days or weeks." He noted that this would be the first step toward further actions aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.

The Kremlin has expressed readiness for dialogue with Donald Trump. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian president, said that a phone call between Putin and Trump "cannot be ruled out" and might even occur before the inauguration. He emphasized, however, that Russia would not make the first move, as, according to him, it was not Moscow but Washington that was responsible for the breakdown in relations.

During his campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly stated his intention to swiftly end the conflict in Ukraine, claiming he could achieve this in a short time. However, the specific details of his plan remain undisclosed.
