Twice convicted ex-MP to appear in court again
Baku/12.06.23/Turan: The preliminary investigation into the case of Dunyamin Khalilov, former deputy of the Milli Majlis and his accomplice Azad Javadov has been completed at the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan. They are charged with crimes committed in collusion with former officials of the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA), the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan said.
According to the investigation, Khalilov and Javadov, together with former IBA executives, created a stable criminal group.
During the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that Khalilov and Javadov, making loans through various IBA branches to employees of the companies General Construction and Baku Nut Processing Enterprise headed by him, appropriated 6 million 642 thousand manats.
Both were charged under Articles 179.3.1 and 179.3.2 (misappropriation by an organized group and a large-scale embezzlement) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and the materials of the criminal case were sent to the Baku Court for Serious Crimes for consideration. Both defendants are already serving prison sentences in previous criminal cases.
In particular, in 2017, Khalilov was sentenced to 13 years in prison on charges of not returning a loan received from the IBA, and the head of the bank and his relative Jahangir Hajiyev – 14.5 years.
In 2019, Khalilov was re-convicted along with Hajiyev and his relative on charges of committing economic crimes. Khalilov's sentence was increased to 14.5 years in prison, and Hajiyev's – 16.5 years. Khalilov was the owner of the famous office center “Globus Plaza".
He also managed JSC "Sheki Market" and "Sheki meat Processing Plant", was the owner and co-owner of other enterprises.
According to the court's verdicts, Khalilov and Hajiyev and other 20 defendants in the case were embezzled funds worth more than 4 billion manats. Hajiyev, Khalilov and Javadov denied the charges.
