Ukraine to Get Patriots, Tanks, 'Faster Than Expected', Pentagon Says
Washington D.C./22.03.23/Turan: The United States is speeding up the training and delivery of Abrams tanks and Patriot missile defense systems for Ukraine, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Early this year, the Biden Administration announced that 31 M1A2 Abrams tanks would be delivered to Ukraine, but officials had speculated it would take about a year to make that happen. Now, the Pentagon says, the delivery will be in the fall — faster than what was initially expected.
"This is about getting this important combat capability into the hands of the Ukrainians sooner rather than later," Pentagon Spokesperson Pat Ryder told reporters.
The Ukrainian air defenders and two donated Patriot systems will be on the battlefield in a matter of weeks. The training began in mid-January.
The updated timeline comes as 65 Ukrainians are wrapping up training on the Patriot missile system at Fort Sill, Oklahoma base in the coming days, military officials told reporters that they’d gathered to view the instruction.
