The Biden Administration, along with the British government, on Thursday jointly sanctioned 7 Russian government-linked hackers who were linked to ransomware attacks against critical infrastructure in the U.S., U.K. and Ukraine, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.

Those sanctioned are alleged to be members of the Russian-based cybercriminal group Trickbot, according to the U.S. officials.

The group was last year linked to cyber attacks targeting the Ukrainian government and private sector groups ahead of the war, and, according to the U.S. Treasury Department, has also allegedly targeted the U.S. government and U.S. companies.

"Russia is a safe haven for cybercriminals, where groups such as Trickbot freely perpetrate malicious cyber activities against the U.S, the UK, and our allies and partners,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement. "These activities have targeted critical infrastructure, including hospitals and medical facilities."

The U.S. and UK "are leaders in the global fight against cybercrime and are committed to using all available authorities to defend against cyber threats," Blinken noted.
