U.S. CDC and State Department warn Americans not to travel to Azerbaijan due to surge in COVID-19 cases
Washington on Monday has raised caution for Americans travelling to Azerbaijan, advising its citizens to reconsider going to the country amid increasing COVID-19 cases, TURA'N's U.S. correspondent reports.
Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Azerbaijan, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lifted its advisory for the country - along with Switzerland, Estonia, North Macedonia, and Saint Lucia - to "Level 4", the highest possible.
The State Department, in its turn, issued a travel alert to Americans against travelling to all those countries.
Over the past week, Azerbaijan has averaged about 3,784 new COVID-19 cases a day, while 35 in average lost their lives every day, according to the data collected on Johns Hopkins University's COVID-19 map.
The U.S. has averaged over 154,000 new infections a day over the past week, according to the CDC.
No matter its designation of your destination, the agency says everyone should be fully vaccinated before traveling.
