US House of Representatives Undermines Cooperation with Ankara
Baku / 30.10.19 / Turan: The position of the US House of Representatives, where two anti-Turkish resolutions were adopted the day before, was condemned by the Turkish Presidential Administration.
"The resolution of the US House of Representatives, which provides for sanctions against Turkey, is contrary to the spirit of cooperation between Ankara and Washington," Fahrettin Altun, the head of the Public Relations Department of the Turkish Presidential Administration, wrote on Twitter.
According to him, this resolution contradicts US policy against the background of statements about the readiness of the parties to bring mutual trade turnover to $ 100 billion.
"An attempt to impose sanctions on a NATO ally in order to protect the interests of a terrorist organization (the Syrian wing of the PKK - YPG) is an indicator of a lack of vision and isolation from the realities of the region," Altun wrote further. Biased resolutions cannot undermine Turkey’s resolve in the fight against criminal organizations, but only jeopardize the future of the bilateral relations.
He noted that the Turkish authorities will continue to voice on all international platforms justifiable concerns about threats to national security, as well as fight against all forms of terrorism in the name of security in the region.
The representative of the Turkish leader’s administration also expressed concern over the decision of the US House of Representatives to support the draft resolution on the events of 1915 in the Ottoman state.
“This document has caused concern for everyone who attaches importance to relations between Turkey and the United States. Those who voted in favor of the resolution will be responsible for the deterioration of strategic relations between Ankara and Washington in a complex region,” Altun wrote.
“We urge the Armenian brothers not to turn their history into an instrument for achieving political goals. We have lived together in this region for hundreds of years. History has taught us that the intervention of external forces harmed the region and brought a lot of suffering to our relations,” he added. -02D-
