U.S. is interested in stability in Azerbaijan, not in its destabilization - Lietzenberger
Baku/09.06.22/Turan: The opinion that the U.S. seeks to undermine stability in Azerbaijan is, to put it mildly, unfounded. Such information may emanate from places where Azerbaijan does not want rapprochement and cooperation with western countries, primarily with the United States.
U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Lietzenberger stated this when answering Turan's question about why they believe that the West wants to undermine stability, organize a color revolution and finance the opposition and critics of the Azerbaijani government for this purpose.
"Such allegations have failed because it is not true. If you look at the amount of economic and political investments in Azerbaijan to develop its energy resources, you see that we are interested in peace and stability. We have invested more than $1.5 billion in Azerbaijan since the early 1990s. Why would we destabilize such an important supplier of energy resources to the West? It makes no sense," the Ambassador stressed.
"Perhaps, this opinion was arose from the fact that the U.S. is called upon to respect fundamental freedoms. In numerous meetings with officials, we have noted that protecting fundamental rights such as freedom of speech and assembly helps stabilize the situation, not undermine it. The threat to stability in the region is Russia's aggression against Ukraine, not the U.S.," Lietzenberger concluded. -02B-
