Visit of OSCE ambassadors to Baku
Baku /22.06.18/Turan: On June 21-22 a delegation of permanent representatives of OSCE countries held a series of meetings in Baku. The ambassadors met with representatives of civil society and opposition the day before. The theme of the meeting was questions of human rights and democracy. The ambassadors were informed about the problem of political prisoners, persecution of opponents of the regime and violation of the fundamental rights of citizens.
Today the ambassadors received the Milli Majlis and the Cabinet of Ministers. Vice Speaker of the Parliament Bahar Muradova said that Azerbaijan does not belong to any blocs and builds its relations both with the OSCE member states and with states that are not members of this structure. At the same time, she did not miss the opportunity to state that "Europe is going through another crisis period".
The members of the Azerbaijani parliament, who attended the meeting, noted the importance of Azerbaijan's cooperation with the OSCE member states and with Europe as a whole.
At the meeting of the ambassadors with Prime Minister Novruz Mammadov they were told about the great role that Azerbaijan plays in the issue of European energy security," despite the alarming instability on this continent." He also mentioned the transit role of Azerbaijan between Europe and Asia.
Regarding the Karabakh conflict, Mammadov noted the need to intensify the role of the OSCE Minsk Group in achieving a just and lasting settlement. -02D-

On January 13, the trial in the case of public activist Nijat Ibrahim continued in the Baku Serious Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge Aygun Gurbanova. The trial was suspended after Ibrahim, in protest against the illegal arrest, began banging his head against the "aquarium cage", trying to commit suicide. At the beginning of the trial, he stated that he had been illegally detained for 4 months, and because of this, his family in Moldova was in a difficult situation, Turan announced this on its Twitter.

The International Committee of Concerned Scholars (ICS) has appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, requesting his assistance in securing the release of the arrested researcher, Igbal Abilov. The ICS expressed concern that Abilov's arrest "may be related to his research on ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, conducted in collaboration with scholars from Armenia."
