Five people arrested in connection with the mass poisonings of cotton growers
Baku/22.06.18/Turan: In connection with the mass poisonings of workers in cotton fields, five officials were brought to justice and arrested, reads the joint statement of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and the Food Safety Agency.
In particular, the arrested are: the director of the Saatli branch of MKT İK LLC Chingiz Gezalov, the chief agronomist of the same enterprise Gulmammad Kyuchiev, the director and chief agronomist of the branch of the said LLC Maarif Guliyev and Surkhay Mamedov, as well as the head of Imishli district Center for Plant Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture Gahraman Gahramanov.
They are accused of not providing timely instruction of field workers about the rules of work in the areas where chemicals were used, as well as involving people for work without observing the deadline for the completion of exposure to chemicals, in violation of safety rules when processing fields by chemicals.
They are charged under Article 222.3 (violation of safety rules during construction and other works, which entailed grave consequences) and the Article 308.2 (abuse of official authority, which entailed grave consequences) of the Criminal Code.
They are accused of not providing timely instruction of field workers about the rules of work in the areas where chemicals were used, as well as employment of without observing the deadline for the completion of exposure to chemicals, in violation of safety rules when spreading chemicals in the fields.
Head of the State Phytosanitary Control Service, Jamal Guliyev, was dismissed.
It has also been established that some persons incite citizens to seek medical help without the absence of grounds for doing so under the pretext of receiving compensation. An investigation into these individuals continues, the report said. Since July 10 in Saatli, Terter, Imishli and Yevlakh region more than 200 people were poisoned by chemicals in cotton fields. -06D--
