Wagner's Presence 'Has Never Been Stabilizing Anywhere' State Department Says
Washington D.C./30.06.23/Turan: Decision to welcome Wagner into Belarus "would be another sign that the Lukashenko regime is siding with the needs and the interests of Vladimir Putin over the needs of his own people," the State Department said on Thursday, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
"The presence of Wagner has never been a stabilizing operation anywhere that they’ve gone," Spokesperson Matthew Miller told a daily briefing when responding to TURAN's questions
Images captured by the European Space Agency’s Sentinel 2 satellites this week appear to show what may be a new Wagner military base near the Belarusian capital of Minsk.
Miller, however, said the U.S. didn't have any assessment to offer about the location of either Yevgeny Prigozhin or other Wagner officials in Belarus.
