White House Appoints New Special Representative For Ukraine Ahead Of Zelenskyy Visit Next Week
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit Washington next week, in addition to New York, as he heads to the U.S. for the UN General Assembly, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
The move comes as President Biden on Thursday appointed former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker to serve as the new U.S. special representative for Ukraine's economic recovery.
"As Secretary [Antony] Blinken said when he visited Kyiv last week, we are committed to ensuring that Ukraine not only survives, but thrives, and Secretary Pritzker will work to ensure that is the case," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said during Thursday's briefing.
Zelenskyy's visit will also come as Congress deliberates the latest military and humanitarian aid package President Biden is requesting for Ukraine, which could be worth as much as $24 billion.
