Baku /16.01.19/Turan: The unexpected visit of ex-French President Nicolas Sarkozy to Baku has not yet received an explanation.
During his meetings with Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva, nothing was specifically said.
Even in his speech at the French University, Sarkozy did not disclose the objectives of his visit.
The French embassy also failed to obtain information about the nature of this trip and the persons accompanying Sarkozy.
Under such a situation we can only assume that, most likely, Sarkozy is acting as a lobbyist for some financial-industrial groups or military-industrial complex with interests in Azerbaijan.
As for the ideological side of the visit, I would like to remind that just Sarkozy introduced criminal liability for denying the Armenian genocide. This law was adopted and approved by Parliament, but it was repealed only by the French Constitutional Court.
At that time, in Azerbaijan and Turkey, Paris was accused of pro-Armenian position at the highest level, demanding to withdraw France from the OSCE Minsk Group.
It is difficult to say what has changed since then, but it is quite possible that on his return to Paris, Sarkozy would suddenly start talking about the genocide in Khojaly. -02B-
